If you were to ask me to give up all aspects of technology for one year or even one week, I would not be able to do it.  In almost everything I do I use technology. It has almost become as essential as oxygen, I use it constantly without even realizing it. The most common ways that I use technology in my life would be through; my cell phone, my computer, digital camera, television, and my ipod. Listing orms of technology is endless because with almost everything I listed there is more to it. Take for example my computer, that is a broad statement because I use my computer for so many different things.

I would have to say that my computer has to be my most frequently used source of technology. I use my computer for communication, to study, to listen to music, look up questions, to map-quest addresses, and for email. My computer is very important to me. It is part of my daily routine; I get up and check my facebook, go to school use the computer to write blogs, come home and do homework on the computer, eat dinner and then check my email and facebook one final time before bed.

After I graduated high school my friends ended up attending colleges all over California and it is hard to go and see them or even take time out of my day to make a call and talk. Somehow the computer’s form of communication on facebook and skype is a lot easier and more convenient for me. I routinely check my facebook.  Facebook allows me to chat with my friends online and when they or I post status’ about how the day is going, we always end up commenting on each others. Which allows all of us to feel constantly connected and keep in touch.

My sister and I are very close but we do not get to see each other often because she lives three in a half hours away from me. So facebook allows both of us to stay in touch on how we are doing and what we are doing. Facebook however, is not the only way we communicate. Of course we talk on the phone but we also skype, through a web cam which is a sort of video chat. On skype I am able to talk to her “in person” as well as my niece and nephew. Facebook and skype make the distance between my family and friends less noticable.

In life communication is key and I am glad that the internet allows me to communicate in many different ways. It makes my life easier. Not only does the internet make communicating a lot easier but it also makes other things a lot easier. Basically the internet makes life a lot easier.

Aside from making my life a lot easier for communication the internet also makes entertainment more accessible. You can watch the new biggest news scandal on youtube, such as the Kanye West & Taylor Swift incident that millions of young Americans replayed over and over. Almost anything  can be seen on youtube from music videos, to “how to’s”, to political speeches, to people just making comedy. If your in the mood to listen to your favorite songs you are also able to do that with a click of the mouse. Just go to itunes and type in the song you would like to hear and if you really loved it you can buy the song and save it on your ipod.

Have you ever had a question that you did not know the answer to and needed an immediate response. I have and I almost always type my question into Google and my question is answered, just like that. Of course, you have to search around to make sure the source that you are getting your answer from is reliable. Almost anything can be posted on the internet which is why you need to be sure that the information your reading is correct. Not everything that you do on the internet is amazing, the internet does have its fair share of flaws.

For example, anything can be posted on Wikipedia and information can be updated by random contributors. Not everything that you see on the internet is believable, so you need to be able to distinguish right from wrong. Other negatives about the internet is that there are “internet predators” who take advantage of young girls and boys. People can pose as whoever they want to be through chat rooms, myspace, or even facebook. Which is a good reason to not talk to anyone on the internet unless you know them. Basically everything in this world that is harmful and bad can be done on the internet. The internet is the perfect outlet to do whatever you want whether it be good or bad because, it is very hard to censor.

The computer is one of the most used sources of technology but, it is not the only one. Another frequently used source in my life personally is my cell phone. I am sure to take my cell phone with me everywhere I go. I take it when I go to school, basketball practice, grocery shopping, I mean literally everywhere. If I forget my cell phone at home and I am not too far away I will even drive home to get it. I use it to text my boyfriend, my friends, teammates, family, and even my coach who sends the players important information on practice times or changes that have been made. Cell phones are not only a luxury but they are a necessity in times when your car breaks down and you need to call AAA.

Digital technology keeps me aware and connected in my daily life. If for some reason I could never use my cell phone or computer ever again I do not know how I would react. They are such vital parts of my life. There are no alternatives for computers or cell phones that can do it all. I suppose you could go back to using  type writers, reading loads of books for research, and driving all the way to one persons house in order to communicate with them. That would take so much more time than necessary and would be extremely frustrating.  Computers and cell phones are such a convenience and time saver in my life.

Literally the ways that I use technology are endless. It has effected and impacted my life hugely. I did not even realize how much until I began writing this essay. Really though, I could go on and on. I could talk about how I go to the movies, watch television, use my digital and video camera for taking pictures and capturing memories, curl my hair with curling iron, use the stove, oven, dishwasher, etc. I mean you get the point but, the main thing I use technology for is communication.

We take so many things for granted in our lives without even realizing it. Each generation is blessed with more and more opportunities than the one before them. Think about all the people that were amazed when the inventions of cars came out or when the invention of the light bulb was discovered. What about more recently like the invention of bluetooth, the iphone, and the laptop which I happen to love. Each generation is blessed with more and more opportunities than the one before them, who was not able to benefit from it. Look at how many people were amazed at those inventions and went out and bought them. You do not realize these things while they are happening because we forget about the way things were before.

Take time to realize how much easier our lives have been made due to the advances in technology. In everything that I do, technology is literally tied in, somehow. In a sense if you took technology away you would almost be paralyzed. How would you be able to write well written essays, or do research for a class, keep in touch with that one person who lives far away, or keep yourself updated on the latest news. Without technology my life would be chaotic.
